ACCIDENT WHEN FLYER LANDS
Aeroplane Takes Nose Dive--C. A.
Studebaker Injured in Mishap. July 18, 1919
When Aviator P. F. Barnes of Tacoma landed in the state training school grounds with two passengers Sunday afternoon he had an accident which nearly proved fatal. The wheels of his big plane struck a rut, and the machine turned upon its nose. C. A. Studebaker and Sam Downs were the passengers with him, and when the machine struck Mr. Studebaker was thrown forward and his head buried in the canvas and machinery. He received several bad cuts on the nose and head and many bruises. Neither of the other men were injured. Downs and the aviator were strapped in the machine but Studebaker was sitting on Downs' lap. The machine was badly wrecked.
Mr. and Mrs. Crown had made a fight with Mr. Barnes just before the accident.
