ASHBURN FIELD, 1916

By 1916, the US Government offered the sum of $100 000 for the development of aviation. The old project was revived, but it needed an airfield. Charles Dickson presented the City of Chicago with terrain at Ashburn Field (83rd St. and Cicero Ave), which officially opened on 28 October 1916.
