Kisco, NY, Apr 28. Elliot c cowdin, widely known as a horse breeder, died at his home here today. He was born here 46 years ago. New York Times29 Apr 1917 ELLIOT C COWDIN DEAD Prominent Horse Breeder Was a Member of the Rough Riders Elliot Channing Cowdin, one of the best known horse breeders of this country, died yesterday morning at his home, Maplehurst, Mt Kisco, NY. He had been ill only a few days. Mr Cowdin was born at Mt Kisco forty-five years ago and early in life he took up the breeding of horses. He bred such well-known horses as Oragan Dobby, simple Honors, Swannacca, Flying Footsteps, The Pippin, and Figginy. He spent his Winters at Lexington, KY., with his horses. Mr Cowdin was a member of the Rough Riders during the spanish--American war. He was graduated from the Groton School, and from Harvard in 1896. He was a member of the Harvard and Union Clubs. He is survived by two brothers, John E of this city and Winthrop Cowdin of Mt Kisco, and three sisters. His nephew, Sergeant Elliot C Cowdin, 2d, and aviator with the French forces at the front, has been twice mentioned for distinguished service. New York Times COWDIN--At his residence, Maplehurst, Mount Kisco, NY. on saturday, April 28, 1917, Elliot Channing Cowdin, son of the late Elliot C and Sarah Katharine Cowdin, aged 45 years and one month.
