My dad, Walter L. Huey, and his friends used to ride their bicycles from their neighborhood over to the Phillip Billard Airport, about around 6 mi. away, to watch the planes comming and going. During the year 1941 he photographed various civilian and several military aircraft at this airport. He ended up joining the Marines in 1943.

My dad, Walter L. Huey, took this picture laying in a field and snapping off a photo of the Ford during take-off. He recalled that it gave him a bit of a scare because it was very low and extremely loud as it flew over.
