Eugene Heth, better known as "Wild Bill" during his barnstorming days, passed away on September 17, 1959. His home during his
retirement was at Birmingham, Michigan. Born at Birmingham on February 11, 1879, he went to Boston to take flying lessons and made his first solo flight on June 26, 1911 at Squantum Field, Boston. Thereafter he spent 7 1/2 years in barnstorming around the country, becoming known as "Wild Bill" as a result of his daredevil stunts. During World War I he served as a civilian flying instructor and was discharged with high recommendation on December 18, 1918. From The Early Birds of Aviation CHIRP, January, 1960, Number 62 |
