ALABAMA’S FIRST AVIATOR
     "In 1908, William Lafayette Quick, a Hazel Green, Alabama resident, designed and built what is believed to have been the first airplane flown in Alabama. Quick’s "Flying Machine", a mid-wing monoplane with an upright pilot position, fuselage-mounted engine, direct-drive propeller, three-wheel landing gear, and steerable tail wheel, was also reputed to be among the first monoplanes flown in the United States."
