BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
via email from Nick Forder, 4-15-04
Salmet - I've compiled a few notes, and will try to write up something which you can use. My copy of 'Under the Shadow of the Eagle's Wing' is out on loan at the moment, so I'll wait until it returns. Basically, what I have is:

Salmet made a tour of North Wales/ NW of England, which may have ended in Cumbria. This included visits to reside resorts and a landing at Hooton Hall, near Ellesmore Port, (later the site of Hooton Park WW1 aerodrome - the Hall was used as the officers' mess - which is now Vauxhall's Astra plant. The tour was sponsored by the Daily Mail and the Bleriot was fitted with floats for some appearances only.

Salmets Bleriot floatplane in Penzance Harbour wet dock
This photo is from the Reg Watkiss archive, (Penzance Photo Archive), and was hand printed by him from the original glass plate, It is by virtue of his professional skill and his generosity that the photo is made available to us. Our sincere appreciation goes to him and to his friend Kevin Parkyn who arranged for the contribution. 7-30-04

PENZANCE HARBOUR
360 degree Panoramic View
If you have the time and search for "Penzance Harbour" using Google, you will find about 832 Links! Perhaps the most unique is this one which offers a 360 degree panoramic view of the Harbour. If you follow the directions:
"Place Mouse Pointer on the photo above, hold down mouse button and move left or right to look around,"
you will see several old stone piers which resemble the one seen in the photos above. However, according to Kevin Parkyn, "The exact location of the aircraft is, I am pretty sure, now part of the harbour car park. It has changed a lot in the last 90 years!" You can access this website by clicking on the title above.
