| ENDURANCE RECORD IN "OIL BURNER", JUNE 3, 1931 |
| Burning "furnace oil" instead of a special grade of gasoline, Walter Lees and Frederic Brossy,
Packard test pilots, pictured above, recently established a new world's endurance record at Jacksonville, Fla. The plane in which they established their record is a standard Bellanca Pacemaker, powered by a Packard standard Diesel aircraft engine of 225 horsepower. The plane, designed by G. M. Bellanca, has a wing-spread of 54 1/2 feet. Lees and Brossy broke the old record by nine hours and 10 minutes, remaining in the air 84 hours. It is anticipated that the new type engine will revolutionize aeronautics in that it will greatly reduce the operations cost from a fuel standpoint.
