Capsule Biography

     Verne C. Babcock dates back to the fall of 1907, at Bangor, Michigan, where he cracked up in the take-off in a plane of his own design. In 1909 he soloed again, on a Wright-type built by himself at Seattle. And Floyd Smith tells of seeing him hop pushers at Dominguez in 1913 and at Venice in 1916. His present occupation is aeronautic engineer of the Babcock & Vicek Aircraft Company, of Akron

  Verne C. Babcock, 86, died Sunday, February 13, 1972. A native of Benton Harbor, Michigan, he was the son of a famous balloonist of the 1890's.
     Survivors include two daughters and six grandchildren.
