1892-1967 |
Edward R. Boland (June 5, 1892), inspector of aircraft equipment with the Army Engineers, began a career in aeronautics in 1907 in the balloon-airship-parachute factory of the late Leo Stevens on Ninth Avenue, New York. In 1910 he began a two-year tour with one of "Uncle Tom's" airships. Somehow or other or when---it doesn't say here---Boland is an MSE in the Signal Corps during the first war. An MSE is a master signal electrician by rating, and ro the practicalities of life has a second looie skinned. He is chief rigger of the 37th Balloon Company at one period, later a civilian employee of the Air Service at the Army Balloon School, Arcadia, California. Here Boland patents a parachute harness, subsequently built by the New York Awning Co. and licensed to the Government. courtesy of Steve Remington - CollectAir |
