New Altitude Record Journal and Tribune, Knoxville, Tennessee: April 20, 1916, Transcribed by Bob Davis - 2-4-05 Newport News, Va., April 19. - Victor Charleton of the Curtiss aviation school today established a new American altitude record for a machine carrying two passengers, ascending 11,100 feet.       The former record was held by R. V. Morris of Buffalo, who ascended 8, 024 feet. The flight was accomplished in one hour and twenty-seven minutes.
