In regards with this page, I am familiar with the monument.
I am a pilot myself so while browsing aviation related website, I found his page. I was intrigued reading it. I hope I can connect some of the dots... I am from Gaspe. Note: Gaspésie translates to "Gaspe Peninsula". Gaspe comes from Gaspeg, a Micmac word that means the "end of the land". Micmac (Pronounced Micmah) are Indians (natives) of the eastern part of Canada. About the monument
The monument in Gaspe was moved from its original location which was close to my parents house. It was moved when
the main road (Boulevard de Gaspe or Provincial road #132) was redone. This was less than 50 feet from our house.
The center of this map shows the approximate location of the monument before it was moved:Original Location At the new location, a commemorative celebration was held in 1984 with the French President and the Prime Minister of Quebec. The new location of the monument is the center of the following map New Location |

Only later in life did I realize that the guy was of historical importance. That was when I saw a
documentary - in French - about the aviator. Jacques De L'Esseps, a count in the sky Editor's Note: You will find a brief view of the monument in this video clip. I hope this will help. Regards Jacques Dery Ottawa, Canada |
