THE LOUISIANA PURCHASE EXPOSITION
ST. LOUIS, 1904

The Ville-de-Saint-Mandé was built by Hippolyte François and in books is given up under other names as François-Contour too... Jane's All the worlds airships 1909, gives it up, as to be a Belgian Airship, the Prosper-Lambert!!! Two photos were shot in Paris, France by tests done into the Galerie des Machines.
The "Prosper-Lambert" one...Built in France as "Ville-de-Saint-Mandé", named to a city which is now part of the Paris agglomeration. They financed the project.
The third into the air at St. Louis 1904. But it seems it was only to see "on the rope", never made a real free flight. Email from Jean-Pierre Lauwers

The History of Aviation in St. Louis
by James J. Horgan
The Patrice Press

Dr. Horgan has assembled a wealth of information on the development of aviation in St. Louis from 1860 to 1965. Included is extensive coverage of the experiences of Hippolyte François at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904. His book is replete with countless bibliographic references and notes and is a "must read" for any aeronautic historian. RSC
