BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
via email from Garry Husum - 4-8-03
Dear Mr. Cooper
My Great Uncle Jonas Jorstad was a Captain in the American Military and instructed Pilots at Wilbur Wright Airfield in 1917. He had two planes called 'Blue Bird'.
Jonas was born 17 December 1882 and died 10 April 1922 from an Appendicitis attack which occurred while flying to South Dakota from Texas. Jonas flew almost half this trip suffering from this.
Is there any chance you folks have anything in your records of early aviators about him, maybe a picture. If not have you any idea who I could contact about this.
Yours truly
Garry D. Husum

JORSTAD HOMESTEAD
Information from Kasey Thomas Rodgers, 2-21-06 & 2-23-06
Hello,
I recently spoke to my mother and showed her your site, she recognized the picture of the homestead and identified it as being in Dawson, Oregon. Dawson is not too far from the Bellfountain area:
"That picture was taken at Dawson. You go through Alpine and go towards the Alsea Falls. It is about 6 miles out of Alpine."
My mother was born and raised in the Bellfountain area. Her father used to own a little tract of land that was very close to the homestead pictured on your site. Personally I know very little about the cabin itself, but my mother would be able to help you much more than I can. I'm sure she can give you a few names and leads into the query by Mr. Husum. I hope in some small way this helps you out
Editor's Note: I really appreciate this kind of supplementary information and clarification. It is an important contribution to a better understanding of the story. My thanks to Kasey and to her mother for their help.
