The late George Meissner was born April 10, 1894, at Nebra, Germany. He first soloed a four-cylinder vee grade monoplane near Berlin in 1911 and obtained his German FAI certificate 553 on Oct. 3, 1913. From 1912-1914 he engaged in commercial aviation, inspection, construction and competition in various meets. Until 1918 he was next in the German naval air sservice. After the first war he continued in German commercial aviation. About 1920 he came to the United States as a mechanical designer and pilot with Curtiss, Loening, Fairchild and Sikorsky, in the meantime becoming an American citizen. courtesy of Steve Remington - CollectAir |
