from Jean-Pierre Lauwers Here is a postcard showing the Sommer plane with its pilot "de Petrowski"... He was a Russian living in Brussels from May 31, 1910. He had Aé.C.B. license n° 11 . Entered WWI as a "volunteer" into Belgian Army Aviation and on July, 1918 he was decommissioned from military duty at his own request. I saw a postcard for sale on e-Bay September, (2002), mentioning his plane at Reims Aviation Week, 1910. This postcard, from my own collection, depicts him at an aviation meet at Mondorf-les-Bains in 1910. It shows his Sommer plane in some detail and shows him, in the white jacket, helping to move the plane to the hangar. Remark : the plane into the air is very probably a fake upprint! |
