Aviator Does Stunts
Starting From Street
In Mariette, Thursday

      MARIETTA, Ohio, June 16---
Aviator L. H. Scott, better known as "Scotty," in Ohio and West Virginia, skipped his new Alexander Eaglerock plane over Second street from Putnam, late this afternoon, amid the cheers of thousands of spectators, who crowded along the sidewalks, sat on top of box cars, buildings and sat on top of the structures.
Two movie cameramen were on the job. One, Joe Nieuhart, in an automobile, caught the plane as it ran down the street and coasted into the air. The other, Harry Morris, cranking the Fox News camera, at the far end of the take-off and caught the machine as it rose into the air and did a few stunts.
A trial run down the street was made previously for Cameraman Morris, who sat in the plane and caught the plane and caught the crowds along the sides. Annoucement had previously been made from a car driven by Harold Becker, that crowds should not surge in after the first trip was made.
The plane was wheeled in from the Scott field, intact, and tuned up before the flight was made. Scotty was in the plane and took no passengers because of the fact that it gave him a lighter clearance. He rose beautifully, taking about a hundred foot runway. He had plenty "raising ground" left, if he had cared to use it, but he preferred getting off as soon as possible.
He did a couple of stunts, flew around the courthouse tower, and then took the machine up the Ohio river to his field, where he landed.
It was the first time that an airplane had ever taken off in any of the streets of Marietta. The street was free from wires, and with plenty of air current drifting, from the B. and O. yards, he was not handicapped by resistance. When he first taxied down Second street, he said it was evident that the take-off would be comparatively easy. A few minutes later, he demonstrated this to be a fact.
Scotty has several contracts for fair work, and will also be doing passenger carrying and exhibition flying for a number of cities. He has the agency for the Alexander Eaglerock plane, considered by the government one of the best commercial planes on the market. Scotty's agency extends to Ohio and West Virginia.
