During his service at the Curtiss School in Newport News, Virginia, Stewart gave then Captain William Mitchell his first flight. He continued giving him dual instruction, along with the other Curtiss Company pilots.  Stewart W. Cogswell is listed in The Early Birds of Aviation Roster of Members as having died in 1956 I have found no other references to him or his career up to this time.
