ARMY PLANES RETURN
August 1, 1919
The two army planes piloted by Lieutenant Kiel and Sergeant McKee, bound from Camp Lewis to
Salem, Ore., under special orders, landed at Chehalis about 11:45 yesterday morning, and took on oil and gas. They left for Portland,
but a short time afterwards Lieutenant Kiel returned to his starting point here. He got lost in the heavy clouds, came down and sighted
the white landing spot. He took on more oil and gas, and left about 1:30 for Portland.
