AVIATORS VISIT CHEHALIS
August 1, 1919
Saturday about 1 p. m., the two army biplanes flying from Salem, Ore., to Camp Lewis, stopped at Chehalis and took on oil and gas. They were here about an hour. They landed in the fine landing field just south of the state training school. Sergeant Frank McKee and Lieutenant Edward Kiel were in charge of the machines. Captain Owen Summers of Camp Lewis and Mae Norton, reporter for the Portland Telegram, were passengers. The aviators made a fine get-away. The machine with Captain Summers made a number of swoops and side-slips as it left the field, but the one with Miss Norton kept an even keel. Miss Norton was slightly ill from her trip from Portland here, but not so indisposed but that she could ....the journey.

ARMY PLANES RETURN
August 1, 1919
The two army planes piloted by Lieutenant Kiel and Sergeant McKee, bound from Camp Lewis to Salem, Ore., under special orders, landed at Chehalis about 11:45 yesterday morning, and took on oil and gas. They left for Portland, but a short time afterwards Lieutenant Kiel returned to his starting point here. He got lost in the heavy clouds, came down and sighted the white landing spot. He took on more oil and gas, and left about 1:30 for Portland.
