I was in Turin during the World Air Games in June 2009, fantastic. There was a replica of the Romanian airplane of Vlaicu. The photos are mine and of Giorgio Giorgi. Best regards Giovanni Giorgetti Via Del Fantasia; 12 57127 - Livorno Via email from Giovanni Giorgetti, 6-28-09 |

Courtesy of Aurelian Simionescu, I did some online reading about the Vlaicu II replica: it appears that in the 1977 movie they used a different model. The one at the recent World Air Games (it got the 3rd prize on historical airplane category) was built in the last 3 years. Some of the people involved in this project were: Constantin Savu, Ion Onutu, Dinu Harnagea, Alexander Murg, Constantin Manolache. It didn't fly yet. They are still testing it because it is much heavier than the original which was built mostly of wood. The engine is a modern one, twice as powerful (105 HP). The intention is to fly it over Carpathians in 2013, 100 years after Vlaicu's failed attempt which cost him his life. http://romanian-spotters.forumer.ro/ demonstratii-aeriene-2009-f41/miting-aviatic-n-cinstea-lui-aurel-vlaicu-t2179.htm http://www.mesagerulhunedorean.ro/avionul-%E2%80%9Evlaicu-nr-2%E2%80%9D-a-fost-adus-in-fostul-sat-bintinti Aurelian |
