HISTORY OF WILL ROGERS WORLD AIRPORT

The aviation industry was barely born when Oklahoma philosopher Will Rogers, told "every city in America," to "get a flying field, even if you have to trade your Chamber of Commerce for it".
From the Will Rogers World Airport Website

Will Rogers and his pilot, Wiley Post, both died in a crash in a small lagoon,
about 15 miles from Point Barrow, Alaska on August 15, 1935
